Hamlyn Village is the first zone encountered after exiting the Garden District. In order to blend in with the Wellies that reside in there, players will need to wear a Propper Suit. Drinking from the tap water in Hamlyn causes the Joy meter to rise at rapid speed. Most other foods and drinks in the village contain Joy as well. When the sun sets, most of the Wellies retire to their beds, giving players an opportunity to break in to their homes and take their belongings. All of the homes in the village have security systems that alert residents and deal damage to the player. These systems can be altered to deal damage to residents using the Polarity Device or turned off completely using the Shortspike. In order to stay as happy as possible, Wellies paint the windows of old village buildings to make it seem as if they are filled with flowers and puppies, when in reality they are destroyed and empty inside. These buildings can not be entered by the player. There are special Wellies who roam the streets, such as Bobbies and Criers. Within the village islands there are multiple parks with underground Shelters. In order to escape Wellington Wells, the player muss cross this zone and enter the next one.
