|Remember, happiness is a choice.|
The Joy Pill is what makes Wellington Wells what it is today. The Wellies of Hamlyn Village voluntarily consume these little pills to keep them happy and sedated, but more importantly, to forget the city's [. This desire to forget, coupled with the exuberance Joy grants, causes residents to beat any Downers (those who choose to not take their Joy) to death, fearing that they might "remember". Joy has side effects of near-complete memory loss and mild psychosis, and is present in most food and water in Hamlyn and absent from most food and water in the REDACTED.
There are currently four flavors of Joy pills available to the citizens of Wellington Wells: Vanilla, Chocolate, coconut, and Strawberry. It appears that these flavors are not provided for choice, but so a wider proportion of the population is able to ingest them, suggesting that the chemical composition of each flavor is slightly different. Wastrels are Wellies who are unable to take Joy for one reason or another, and a note from one unfortunate [REDACTED] Wastrel reveals that she is waiting for the fourth flavor, Coconut, to become available. She hopes this will enable her to tolerate Joy, and like everyone else, forget the past.
Joy Pills can be obtained from the [REDACTED] Wellies, in the houses of Hamlyn, and sometimes found in trash cans. An alternative to the factory made Joy pills available in Hamlyn are DSM pills and Sunshine pills. These pills cause similar effects as Joy pills.
Taking a Joy Pill increases the players Joy meter. The player can take multiple pills at one time, but increasing the joy meter too high can lead to [REDACTED].
